PERSIAN OVERSEAS FLAGSHIP PROGRAM
STATESIDE PROGRAM
Graduate Program
This U.S.-based intensive language program in Persian is intended to assist qualified students in attaining functional proficiencies in Persian at the Advanced-Mid/Advanced-High levels in two or more skills through participation in enhanced, intensified coursework on U. S. campuses. The program is intended for graduate students who have studied Persian for a minimum of two college years. Heritage speakers of Persian are also welcome to apply. Graduates of the Persian Stateside Flagship Program will be eligible to apply for the 9-month Persian Overseas Flagship Program in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The combined two-year Persian Flagship Program is designed to prepare participants to reach the Superior level of language proficiency in Persian. It is expected that all Fellows (please see the information on funding below) who participate in the Stateside Program and fulfill its requirements will continue their studies on the Overseas Program in Dushanbe. The 9-month stateside component of the Program is administered by the University of Maryland. Students interested in the Program should send application materials to the University of Maryland. Prior to the start of the Program, each participant will take part in extensive individual pre-program testing which will inform the development of a customized learning plan. All Flagship participants will then be enrolled in coursework relevant to program goals that is tailored to suit their own individual interests.
Undergraduate Program
New Initiatives for Advanced-Level Intensive Training in Persian
This U.S.-based intensive language program in Persian is intended to assist qualified students in attaining functional proficiencies in Persian at the Intermediate-Mid/Intermediate-High levels in two or more skills through participation in enhanced, intensified coursework at the stateside Persian Flagship university. The program is intended for all undergraduate students, (majors and non-majors in Persian) and heritage speakers of Persian. Undergraduates of the Stateside Persian Flagship Program will be eligible to apply for the summer or the one year Overseas Persian Flagship Program in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The study abroad summer or one academic year is designed to prepare participants to reach the Advanced level of language proficiency in Persian. The summer and / or the one year long overseas component of the Program will be administered by American Councils and a Flagship Center.
