Orientation
1. Flagship Participant Handbook (50+ pages): which contains detailed information on the academic and cultural program in Dushanbe, as well as general information on student life in Tajikistan.
2. Pre-Departure Orientation Program: Washington, DC Yearlong(September 1 - 3, 2010); Summer (June 8-10, 2010)
  • Pre-Departure Testing - ACTFL OPIs, AC Structure, AC Reading, AC Listening
  • Expectations, logistics, program nuts and bolts, health and safety information, informational sessions on self-managed learning, seminar on cultural adaptation and readjustment
3. In-Country Orientation Program: Dushanbe, Tajikistan Yearlong(September 5-6); Summer (June 12-13)
Academic and Summer Programs
  • Intensive small-group instruction at the Dushanbe Language Center
  • Guest speakers and bi-weekly excursions
  • Daily meetings with individual language tutors who are selected from professors teaching at the University's Faculty of Philology
  • Discipline-based course in the participant's area of specialization - Fall semester (Yearlong only)
  • Professional internship - Spring semester (Yearlong only)
  • Externship - Summer program

Formal language learning is further reinforced through the following Informal Components:
