St. Petersburg State University

Core language instruction in the form of group classes and individualized tutorials takes place at the newly renovated Special Department of Philology at St. Petersburg State University, located in the city center on the Neva embankment close to the University's main campus on Vasilievsky Island. Established by Peter the Great in 1724, the University has since remained one of the world’s foremost centers of learning.  Currently 25,000 undergraduate and graduate students study in the University’s 24 departments, of which several, including the Special Department of Philology, are internationally renowned.

The Special Department of Philology is a subdivision of the University's Department of Philology and Arts.  It offers Russian language programs to international students.  Thus, all Department’s programs are designed for students with different language skills and professional needs.  The Special Department of Philology is a member of the Russian Society of Teachers of the Russian Language and Literature (ROPRYAL) and International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (MAPRYAL).
