The Turkish Flagship Program at Indiana University offers a unique opportunity for students to reach a professional level of proficiency in the Turkish language and culture. Funding from The Language Flagship supports an innovative approach to language teaching and provides scholarship support. The program is open to students of all majors including Turkish Studies. Students are also encouraged to combine language study with another major. Academic-year students reaching a Level 3 proficiency rating on the ILR scale earn a Flagship Scholar Certificate.
Intensive language courses are the focus of the Turkish Flagship Program. However, to increase students' knowledge of Turkish culture, additional events are scheduled throughout the duration of program: modern Turkish culture and politics, comparative international relations, translation, distinguished guest speakers, native speaking language partners, cultural exchanges, and field trips.
The Turkish Flagship Program is funded by The Language Flagship and The Institute for International Education. The academic institutions affiliated with the Flagship program are Indiana University and American Councils for International Education.
