The academic year 2016-2017 Turkish Overseas Flagship Program is currently conducted at Azerbaijan University of Languages in Baku, Azerbaijan. The summer 2016 Turkish Overseas Flagship Program was conducted in Almaty, Kazakhstan at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The academic year program is intended for undergraduate students currently enrolled in Indiana University's Domestic Flagship Program who have reached an advanced level of proficiency equivalent to Level 2/2+ on the ILR scale. Heritage speakers are encouraged to apply. The academic year overseas component of the program is administered by American Councils for International Education.
The overseas program features formal coursework on discourse development, individualized tutorials, biweekly excursions, and homestays with Turkish-speaking families. Participants benefit from extensive opportunities for professionally focused language development through regular university courses in their area of specialization during the fall semester and internships with local organizations during the spring semester.
Indiana University’s Domestic Turkish Flagship Program provides students the opportunity to attain superior/professional language proficiency through classroom learning, extracurricular activities, and overseas study, including a year in Turkey. Students can major in any of IU’s 180 majors and more than 330 degree programs, including Business, Music, and Liberal Arts, while completing the requirements to achieve superior-level Turkish language skills and certification from The Language Flagship. The Turkish Flagship Program aims to produce graduates who will thrive in careers as global professionals.
